Winter Beginner

Winter Beginner - £75per person

Are you a confident summer hiker looking to start getting out in the winter months but unsure where to start ? If so then this event could be for you. A day full of lots of fundamental information, advice, tuition and great fun whilst putting your skills to the test.

This event will take place in Drumochter.

Please note - we may have to change location the week prior to the event date to give us the best winter conditions to work with. If this is the case we will try and keep it as close to the original location as possible.

What’s included -

We will meet at a local cafe in the morning and discuss all things winter, from what kit you need for a winters hike, how to prepare and pack for winter , weather forecast , sourcing information , avalanche awareness and route choice.

Once we are kitted up we will head out onto the surrounding hills. Here you will have a chance to test your kit out and gain further skills.

* Using the boot as a tool & movement coaching for efficiency

* Looking at modern technology and how we can use it in winter

* How to carry and start to use an ice axe

* When to use microspikes vs transferring into crampons

* How to fit and use crampons

* How to move in crampons / crampon techniques

* Assessing the snow pack / avalanche risk on the hill

Make a weekend out of it and join our guided hike the following day where we will be taking in a munro. This will give you the chance to embed your skills from the previous day and start to build confidence.
