Suilven known as one of Scotland most iconic mountains and one which is on many bucket lists.
Though under Munro status this mountain requires great effort and fitness to reach its summit. Strong hill fitness and previous hiking experience is a must.
                                                                                                                                                                                                              What the day includes -
An early start from Lochinver as we have several hours of hiking and lots of distance to cover to get us into the foot of this mountain. Cover a great path as we go and passing the doors of Suileag bothy ( time depending on return we may stop off for a quick break here ).
Heading off the main route and finally heading towards Suilven we make our way over the winding moor which soon makes you feel rather small as Suilven starts to tower steeply above.
This next section requires stamina and a head for heights as we steeply pull straight up the side of this mountain on a very eroded and rocky path. Finally being able to catch our breath as we top out at the bealach, but not for long as the spectacular views and airy feeling soon wisp it away again!
A steep and rocky ridge pulls us up directly as we pass through an incredible stone dyke wall. Looking back will leave your knees weak and best waiting for a flat spot to take in the views which are out of this world and one many will only ever see in a photo. The summit is soon reach, Caisteal Laith at 731m. After a well deserved break we will retrace our steps the way we came taking great care on descent until we reach some more level terrain.
The long walk out now awaits us where we will make our way back to the start point , forever looking over your shoulder for one last glimpse of this almighty mountain.
The terrain through is rocky and rough underfoot with steep and loose terrain on ascent and descent of the mountain.
